Who We Are

My name is Connie Johnson and I am the owner/operator of For the Love of Parrots, based in Douglas, Ontario, Canada.

The beginning of my hobby parrot aviary began with an early morning spent browsing through the newspaper. There was an ad for a five-year-old African Grey parrot for sale. On a whim, I called the phone number and soon was on my way to see the parrot. Within 20 minutes, I became the proud owner of an African Grey parrot.

Owning a parrot gave me a love for the entire parrot family and led me to the decision to breed and raise hatchlings.

After researching the different kinds of parrots, I chose to raise African Grey's and purchased two pairs of them. I also purchased one pair of Blue and Gold Macaws for breeding and one pair of Red-Sided Eclectus.

Today, I am raising and hand-feeding little ones, and loving every minute of it. Each of the babies are given lots of love and attention during the hand-feeding period, and all are hand-fed until at least 15-weeks of age. By this time, they usually have weaned themselves and are eating plenty of fruits, veggies, pasta, rice and even chicken.

What began as a new interest has become a wonderful hobby with the intention to raise many many more babies in the next several years. I truly do it, For the Love of Parrots.
